Printmaking Gallery

I love print making. The physicality of it all; including the mess, the smell of the ink, the variety of available papers and complicated process that is not worth starting unless you have at least half a day because the clean up is so involved.

Here are a few of my most recent prints. These are done in editions of 6. You can see how paper choices are used to make each one unique. Click on the image to enlarged the view.

In these first series, I’m playing with the idea of it being an honor to have a companion of a different species. In the mythology of different cultures these companions are sometimes referred to as familiars. They could be a guide, protector, helper, healer or a link to the spirit world. For example, early witches had black cats to help them with their magic. Some cultures believe that everyone has a companion unique to that person. They are closely related to the individual, though have lives of their own. The familiar usually takes the form of a small animal, such as a bird, cat or rodent.

“Pretty Bird” 17 1/2″ x 9″ $175

Sometimes people talk through their pets when they really want to communicate to each other. This can be in fun or it can help to lighten an uncomfortable conversation. And “Pretty bird”, is one of the easiest phrases for a parakeet can learn to say.

Progeny 12″ x 16″ $175

Second in my series about people and their pets. A gramma and her grand daughter pose with their pet momma rabbit and bunny. Rabbits are often depicted in art as symbols of continuation of life and of rebirth. They can also be depicted as tricksters and are known for dancing under the light of the moon.

Banty Besties 12″ x 16″ $175

Banty game hens are the perfect size to hold. Most of them don’t like to be carried around but a rare few do. This young man has two that have agreed to be his besties. A chicken or two can make interesting pets. Because game hens are small they do less damage to your yard with their digging and scratching than full size chickens. The eggs are a bonus.

In art, hens are depicted mostly in country themes. Artists find their unending varieties inspiring.

And I’m always inspired by dance.
